Audacity software is designed to work with sound. It can be used to mix and digitize music, record audio, remove noise, add pauses and to cut the ringtones. Audacity is a free tool with a simple and intuitive interface, so it quickly gained popularity. However, when you try to save the project in mp3 format, you may receive a window that asks to install the library lame_enc.dll. It can help to save your edited audio files in mp3 format. This format retains the high quality of sound in smaller file size.
To install the library lame_enc there are two ways:
- Download and install K-Lite Codec Pack
- Download lame_enc.dll
Library lame_enc.dll is included in K-Lite Codec Pack, so installing it solves the problem in most cases. This pack includes codecs for video and sound. When installing it is better to leave all the default settings. If you do not want to install so many codecs for one program you can download lame_enc.dll for Audacity. After the library will be on your computer, it must be put into the root folder of the program. Most likely it is on drive C in Program Files or Program Files (x86). After you copy the file to the directory of Audacity, you must restart the computer.
Downloading file lame_enc.dll and putting it in the root folder is not enough, you need to specify its location. Now at the stage of saving the sound file, after filling the metadata, a window will appear with the title “specifying the location of the LAME”. Click “Browse” button and select lame_enc.dll in the root folder of the program. After clicking “Open”, the file will be saved successfully. You will no longer have to repeat this procedure, next time the mp3 saving will start automatically. This method is relevant for any version of Windows starting with seven.
